Personality
We need you to be a bubbly, chatty sort. It’s not that we’re shy - on the contrary, we love a good chat and our perfect match needs to too! First impressions count and the face of schuh is a cheerful one who likes to make other people smile too! In fact, we believe this so much that we value a good person with a sunny disposition over experience. So, even if you’ve never worked in retail, don’t be put off!
Values
We’re looking for someone whose values are similar to ours. Well, it just wouldn’t work otherwise, would it?
We’re looking for someone who works hard and finds the fun in it. Shirkers need not apply! It goes without saying that amazing customer service has to be something you’re passionate about. Whether it’s the way you treat your customers or taking one for the team, we believe in treating others as we’d like to be treated and our perfect match should feel that way too.
Attributes
We love people who strive to be the best they can be and who take pride in what they do. Whether it’s making sure your section of the shop looks the BEST, unpacking the delivery quicker than you did last time or being the friendliest and most efficient cashier ever. We’ve got a thing for a bit of ambition, so even if the right vacancy for you isn’t up here just now, apply anyway – you never know what might change!
Interests
We love music, bungee jumping and crocheting. But if we loved all the same things, it would be dull wouldn’t it so we can’t wait to hear what you’re into. However, it does help if you have an interest in shoes and fashion. They’re what we’re all about after all! It doesn’t matter to us if fashion for you is following the latest trends or treading your own path – after all, variety is the spice of life!
What we look for in our managers…
Let’s put it out there – we’re greedy. We collect people. Good people. We’ve got lots already but, like a kid in a sweet shop, we always want more! And whilst we love to get new good people in, we like to grow our own too. We get folk in, start ‘em as a part timer, a full timer, a Deputy, whatever level, a bit of water, sunshine and food and we’ve grown another schuh Manager.
The thing is, we really do like to nurture our people and, while we can’t really guarantee you sunshine (this is the UK and ROI after all), we will make sure that, whatever level you join us at, you get plenty of on the job training. Not only that but, if you behave, we’ll even let you out on training courses and workshops too.

Store Managers
What would you do if your store was your own? Well, it kind of is - you don’t get to keep all the money or have to pay the gas and electric or anything. But, you’ll have a say in how it looks, you’ll recruit (and grow – that’s right, we expect you to become a grower too) and lead your team, making sure you’re doing everything possible to bust those targets! Show us your inner entrepreneur! Speaking of which, you have to be a bit of an every(wo)man in this role: motivator, confidante, leader, finger waggler – it’s all encompassing and ALWAYS varied!
One of the fun things for us about bringing in new people is having a fresh set of eyes on the scene. And we want to hear your thoughts and ideas. If you have a great idea, you may well see it come to life and roll out across the company!
And that’s the first part of the sort of person we’re after. Beyond that, you need to be driven, upbeat, ambitious and positive!
Whatcha gonna get?
Uh – a career! We’re gonna give you a ladder to climb*. How far up it you go is down to you. We’ll pay you too, and it’ll be competitive. And, because we know you need a break sometimes if you’re gonna grow real good, you’ll get a great holiday allowance too. Oh, and generous staff discount…

Deputy Store Managers
You’re the Robin to the Store Manager’s Batman! The seedling to their blossoming rose (that’s not to say you don’t look good – you look lovely!). You’re there as a back up and support and, when they’re not around, you’ll look after their ship and crew.
Let’s be honest though – the goal’s to bag your own store really, isn’t it? While you’re Deputy, you’ll build up vital skills, learning from your Manager and taking responsibility for different areas of the store, from running the sales floor or stock room, to staff training and HR functions.
So what do we want? Same qualities as a Manager really – a pinch of zing, a dash of spark, a whole lot of enthusiasm and a desire to learn and succeed.
Whatcha gonna get?
Like your Manager, you’ll be getting a ladder to climb. And all the pay and whatnot. The difference is that your Manager is there nearly every day to continue to grow and develop you and get you ready for when that all important opportunity comes up.
Trainee Managers
So, the great thing about being a Trainee Manager at schuh is that, at this point, we’re more interested in who you are than what you’ve done. Show us that you’re a committed sort, bursting with enthusiasm, ambition and passion, and we’ll help you with the rest…
Our Management Training Programme – AKA Growing Good People
OK – some of this is mega fun! We’ll send you away on residential management development courses, where you’ll meet peers from all over the company, as well as to other work shops and training days. Make no mistake though – its HARD work and you need to be up for it. And this is where your drive and enthusiasm come in. The programme is very much self study and dictated by you. You can sit back and take your time going through it. Or you can push forward, demanding time from your Manager, taking in as much as possible and move on to being Deputy Manager ASAP!
